Our Story

Hudson Housing Capital was founded in 1998 as a low income housing tax credit syndicator. Dominated by a handful of large companies, the marketplace was highly competitive, but our premise and unique approach positioned us for success.

With private, independent ownership, client-driven methodology and commitment to service, our goal was not only to survive, but to thrive. We did. Our equity volumes increased steadily over the years, even through challenging financial times.

Since inception, Hudson has syndicated more than $8 billion in tax credit equity. We continue to manage a portfolio with superior performance measures and consistently raise and close over $700 million per year.

Our People

The keys to a company’s success are its people. From the beginning, Hudson’s principals have been actively involved in creating a culture of continuity and expertise. Each Hudson professional “owns” all activities and communications regarding an assigned asset.

This culture of engaged responsibility – the interplay of deal, developer, and investor – has helped create a dynamic, fulfilled team, low turnover, and an average term with Hudson of more than 8 years.

Our Project Managers take central responsibility for the acquisition process, including overseeing underwriting, negotiating with developers, documenting each stage, creating an investment forecast and closing the deal.

Our Asset Managers oversee assigned project assets from the time of investment until disposition. Responsibilities include following construction, lease-up and conversion, processing capital contributions, visiting properties, managing developer communication, providing investment performance information and responding to investor inquiries.

Our Accounting staff members oversee assigned investment funds. They facilitate consistent communication with investors and developers during the investment cycle, promoting solid understanding of the needs of all stakeholders.

At Hudson, our people drive our success, and they are the reason our client portfolios perform at the highest levels in the industry.

At Hudson, we proudly built our reputation on simple ideas: provide capital for the development of attractive, affordable housing and deliver excellent service for both investor and developer clients.

Our achievements stem from a focus on proprietary investment funds tailored to individual investors - a strategy we embraced well ahead of our competitors. This disciplined approach has also led to tailored, well-priced and properly structured funds for developers.

We have maximized execution for specific projects by either creating regional multi-investor funds for designated properties, or by organizing multiple investors for single property investments. We have also enhanced investor value by executing secondary market trades within our portfolio that are beneficial to both sellers and buyers.

Hudson offers the experience and depth of management to navigate the most complex opportunities, but the simple things are what set us apart. A privately owned company, we focus on long-term relationships, carefully nurturing our partnerships, maintaining thorough underwriting and providing meticulous asset management.

Why work with a private company?

Since Hudson is privately owned, our policies and plan are determined by the owners. We are unfettered by quarterly earnings concerns or other distractions, giving us latitude to promote long-term success in managing investor capital and in executing on behalf of developers. This bias dovetails perfectly with the long-term nature of low income housing tax credit investing. In this and many other ways, our interests align with those of our clients.
